This thesis explores different approaches for the acceleration of raytracing calculations on the graphics processing unit (GPU). For that a voxel grid is used and extended by the linespace data structure. The linespace consists of direction based shafts and stores the objects located in those shafts in a candidate list. Different methods for the sorting and traversal of the linespace are presented and evaluated. The shown methods cannot provide a speed up of the frame rate without resulting in a loss of image quality.
Algorithmische Komposition
(2018)
Algorithmic composition is an interdisciplinary topic that unites music and science. The computer is able to generate algorithmic music with the aid of a specific algorithm. In this bachelor thesis, algorithmic composition is realized with the biology-inspired algorithms called Lindenmayer-system and cellular automaton. In order to realize the compositions, several techniques are presented as well as implemented and evaluated. Those techniques map the generated data from the algorithms on a meaningful musical result.
The present thesis describes the development of an OpenGL-based tool visualizing cavities of proteins, which can be observed during a static docking simulation. The goal is to achieve knowledge about interactions between proteins and ligands based on information about distances between them. At first chemical basics, which motivate the topic and are important for understanding the topic and the used algorithms, are presented. Furthermore existing software, which deals with similar issues, is described. Next the prerequisites for the development of the program are presented and the tool is described in detail. Concluding the tool is evaluated concerning performance and usage and a summarizing conclusion is given. The program turns out as a helpful tool for current research and a good base for further and deeper research projects.
This thesis deals with the distribution of large virtual networks to multiple physical hosts using the virtualization tools VNUML and EDIV. While VNUML is responsible for simulating the network, EDIV has its focus primarily on the distributiion. After a short explanation of basic terms and concepts from the field of network simulation, the two previously mentioned virtualization tools are described in detail. This starts in both cases with a detailed description regarding the proper installation and configuration, followed by a demonstration of the most important functions, such as starting or stopping a simulation. The creation of a suitable network scenario and the information scripts provided by EDIV are two further points described in this context. To use the presented possibilities of those tools in practice, an own network scenario is designed and distributed to several hosts, so that the different functions of EDIV can be shown and described accurately.
In this bachelor thesis a code for astrophysical self-gravitating fluid
simulation is developed. The code runs mainly on the GPU. Minimal
simplifications of the physical model and some parameters for accuracy
and tuning allow simulations to be performed at interactive framerates
on most modern consumer grade computers that feature a dedicated
graphics card. It is used to simulate the birth of stars from a turbulent
molecular cloud. Multiple features of star formation, like accretion
discs and fragmentation, can be observed in the simulation, even when
low particle counts are used.
This study investigates crowdfunding, a new form of financing projects. In the past years more and more crowdfunding platforms emerged. The main question is if crowdfunding is able to compete with the traditional types of financing social projects. The history and development of crowdfunding is presented in this paper. The different crowdfunding models are explained. An overview of German crowd funding platforms is presented. Based on successful social crowdfunding projects a list of key success factors is listed and described. In a case study a concept for financing a social project through crowdfunding is developed upon the previous studies.
Abstract
This bachelor thesis delivers a comprehensive overview of the topic Internet of Things (IoT). With the help of a first literature review, important characteristics, architectures, and properties have been identified. The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine whether the use of IoT in the transport of food, considering the compliance with the cold chain, can provide advantages for companies to reduce food waste. For this purpose, a second literature review has been carried out with food transport systems without the use, as well as with the use of IoT. Based on the literature review, it is possible at the end to determine a theoretical ‘ideal’ system for food transport in refrigerated trucks. The respective used technologies are also mentioned. The findings of several authors have shown that often significant improvements can be achieved in surveillance, transport in general, or traceability of food, and ultimately food waste can be reduced. However, benefits can also be gained using new non-IoT-based technologies. Thus, the main knowledge of this bachelor thesis is that a theoretical ‘ideal’ transport system contains a sensible combination of technologies with and without IoT. This system includes the use of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for real-time food monitoring, as well as an alarm function when the temperature exceeds a maximum. Real-time monitoring with GPS coupled with a monitoring center to prevent traffic jams is another task. Smart and energy-efficient packaging, and finally the use of the new supercooling-technology, make the system significantly more efficient in reducing food waste. These highlights, that when choosing a transport system, which is as efficient and profitable as possible for food with refrigerated transport, companies need not just rely on the use of IoT. On this basis, it is advisable to combine the systems and technologies used so far with IoT in order to avoid as much food waste as possible.
This bachelor thesis deals with the development of an application for the Microsoft HoloLens. The application is used for the marketing of advertis- ing spaces that belongs to the company awk AUSSENWERBUNG GmbH. On basis of the development, the question is answered which are the pos- sibilities and limitations of the HoloLens and the Mixed Reality Platform. Problems are also addressed, that come along with the development of an application for such a new technology, like the HoloLens is. Beside the new technologies, some challenges come also from the applications oper- ational locations. Several application examples and presentations suggest, that the HoloLens is primarily designed for indoor usage. Instead the de- veloped application is for outdoor use only. During the development, sev- eral insights can be gained about this new technology. On the one hand it becomes clear, that the HoloLens and also the development environment aren’t completely matured yet. On the other hand, that the HoloLens isn’t an outdoor device at all. Despite the difficulties during the development, there occur many possibilities that are associated with this new technology.
This thesis presents a novel technique in computer graphics to simulate realtime
global illumination using path tracing. Path tracing is done with compute shaders on the graphics card (GPU) to perform rendering in a highly parallelized manner. To improve the overall performance of tracing rays, the Line Space is used as an acceleration data structure in different variations, resulting in better
empty space skipping. The Line Space saves scene information based on a previous voxelization in direction-dependent shafts and is generated and traversed on the GPU. With this procedure, indirect lighting and soft shadows can be computed in a physically correct way. Furthermore, using the Line Space, path tracing can be performed mostly independent of the complexity of the scene geometry with over 100 frames per second, which is truly real-time and much faster than using a comparable voxel grid. The image quality is not affected negatively by this technique and the shadow quality is in most cases much better compared to shadow-mapping.
This research examines information audit methodologies and information capturing methods for enterprise social software which are an elementary part of the audit process. Information auditing is lacking of a standardized definition and methodology because the scope of the audit process is diversified and dependent on the organization undertaking the audit. The benefits of information auditing and potential challenges of Enterprise 2.0 the audit can overcome are comprehensive and provide a major incentive for managers to conduct an audit. Information asset registers as a starting point for information auditing are not specifically focusing on social software assets. Therefore this research pro-ject combines asset registers from different areas to create a new register suitable for the requirements of Enterprise 2.0. The necssary adaptations caused by the new character of the assets are minor. The case study applying the asset register for the first time however reveals several problematic areas for information auditors completing the register. Rounding up the thesis a template is developed for setting up new work spaces on enterprise social software systems with appropriate metadata taking into account the meaningful metadata discovered in the asset register.
Nutzung von Big Data im Marketing : theoretische Grundlagen, Anwendungsfelder und Best-Practices
(2015)
The goal of this thesis is to create a recommender system (RS) for business processes, based on the existing ProM plugin RegPFA. To accomplish this task, firstly an interface must be created that sets up and expands a database receiving probabilistic finite automata (PFA) created by RegPFA in tsml format as input. Secondly, a Java program must be designed that uses said database to recommend the process elements that are most likely to follow a given sequence of process elements.
In this thesis we exercise a wide variety of libraries, frameworks and other technologies that are available for the Haskell programming language. We show various applications of Haskell in real-world scenarios and contribute implementations and taxonomy entities to the 101companies system. That is, we cover a broad range of the 101companies feature model and define related terms and technologies. The implementations illustrate how different language concepts of Haskell, such as a very strong typing system, polymorphism, higher-order functions and monads, can be effectively used in the development of information systems. In this context we demonstrate both advantages and limitations of different Haskell technologies.
Companies try to utilise Knowledge Management (KM) to gain more efficiency and effectiveness in business. The major problem is that most of these KM projects are not or rarely based on sustainable analyses or established theories about KM. Often there is a big gap between the expectations and the real outcome of such KM initiatives. So the research question to be answered is: What challenges arise in KM projects, which KM requirements can be derived from them and which recommendations support the goal of meeting the requirements for KM? As theoretical foundation a set of KM frameworks is examined. Subsequently KM challenges from literature are analysed and best practices from case studies are used to provide recommendations for action on this challenges. The main outcome of this thesis is a best practice guideline, which allows Chief Knowledge Officers (CKOs) and KM project managers to examine the challenges mentioned in this thesis closely, and to find a suitable method to master these challenge in an optimal way. This guideline shows that KM can be positively and negatively influenced in a variety of ways. Mastering Knowledge Management (KM) in a company is a big and far-reaching venture and that technology respectively Information Technology (IT) is only a part of the big picture.
Usability experts conduct user studies to identify existing usability problems. An established method is to record gaze behavior with an eye-tracker. These studies require a lot of effort to evaluate the results. Automated recognition of good and bad usability in recorded user data can support usability experts in eye tracking evaluation and reduce the effort. The objective of that bachelor thesis is to identify suitable eye-tracking metrics that correlate with the quality of usability. For this purpose, the central research question is answered: Which eye-tracking metrics correlate with the quality of a web form’s operation? To answer the research question, a quantitative A/B-user-study with eye-tracking was conducted and recorded the
gaze behavior of 30 subjects while filling out the web form. The web form was designed, that each web form page was available as a good and bad variant according to known usability guidelines. The results confirm a significant correlation between the eye-tracking-metric "number of visits to an
AOI" and the quality of the operation of a web form. The eye-tracking-metrics
"number of fixations within an AOI" and "duration of fixations within an AOI" also correlate with the quality of usability. No correlation could be confirmed for the "time of the first fixation within an AOI".
Infinite worlds

This work is concerned with creating a 2D action-adventure with roleplay elements. It provides an overview over various tasks of the implementation. First, the game idea and the used gamemechanism are verified and a definfinition of requirements is created. After introducing the used framework, the software engineering concept for realization is presented. The implementation of control components, game editor, sound and graphics is shown. The graphical implementation pays special attention to the abstraction of light and shadow into the 2D game world.
Helicopters are crucial in today’s life. A vast amount of applications prove
their range, which are not coverable by other types of aircraft. But they are
very complex systems, both, technically and physically. This is one of the
reasons why pilot training for helicopters is quite challenging. In the last
two decades flight simulators became a supplementary instrument in the
educational process of pilots. With flight simulators it is possible to replay
uncommon or dangerous situations. In this thesis a simple flight simulator
for helicopters will be developed based on rigid body physics. The foundation is a simplified rotor model which omits complex fluid dynamics. This
helps to keep the implementation simple and illustrative as well as provide simulation rates at real-time. The modules are implemented within
the Unreal Engine in such way, that changing helicopter characteristics is
very easy.
Real-time graphics applications are tending to get more realistic and approximate real world illumination gets more reasonable due to improvement of graphics hardware. Using a wide variation of algorithms and ideas, graphics processing units (GPU) can simulate complex lighting situations rendering computer generated imagery with complicated effects such as shadows, refraction and reflection of light. Particularly, reflections are an improvement of realism, because they make shiny materials, e.g. brushed metals, wet surfaces like puddles or polished floors, appear more realistic and reveal information of their properties such as roughness and reflectance. Moreover, reflections can get more complex, depending on the view: a wet surface like a street during rain for example will reflect lights depending on the distance of the viewer, resulting in more streaky reflection, which will look more stretched, if the viewer is locatedrnfarther away from the light source. This bachelor thesis aims to give an overview of the state-of-the-art in terms of rendering reflections. Understanding light is a basic need to understand reflections and therefore a physical model of light and its reflection will be covered in section 2, followed by the motivational section 2.2, that will give visual appealing examples for reflections from the real world and the media. Coming to rendering techniques, first, the main principle will be explained in section 3 followed by a short general view of a wide variety of approaches that try to generate correct reflections in section 4. This thesis will describe the implementation of three major algorithms, that produce plausible local reflections. Therefore, the developed framework is described in section 5, then three major algorithms will be covered, that are common methods in most current game and graphics engines: Screen space reflections (SSR), parallax-corrected cube mapping (PCCM) and billboard reflections (BBR). After describing their functional principle, they will be analysed of their visual quality and the possibilities of their real-time application. Finally they will be compared to each other to investigate the advantages and disadvantages over each other. In conclusion, the gained experiences will be described by summarizing advantages and disadvantages of each technique and giving suggestions for improvements. A short perspective will be given, trying to create a view of upcoming real-time rendering techniques for the creation of reflections as specular effects.
The increased networking of devices has established the usage of distributed applications as a common method in software development. Despite the demand of anonymity in using distributed applications, software frameworks still lack appropriate support in developing them. Building anonymous communicating applications therefore often results in an expensive individual approach. This work integrates an approach for anonymous communication using remote procedure calls into a software framework for building distributed applications. This also includes the design, development, and prototypical implementation of a binding for the MAppLab Remote Procedure Call Framework on the basis of the mPartAPI Framework. Furthermore the resulting prototype will be tested in an exemplary scenario.
The goal of this Bachelor thesis was programming an existig six-legged robot, which should be able to explore any environment and create a map of it autonomous. A laser scanner is to be integrated for cognition of this environment. To build the map and locate the robot a suitable SLAM(Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technique will be connected to the sensor data. The map is reported to be the robots base of path planning and obstancle avoiding, what will be developed in the scope of the bachelor thesis, too. Therefore both GMapping and Hector SLAM will be implemented and tested.
An exploration algorithm is described in this bachelor thesis for exploring the robots environment. The implementation on the robot takes place in the space of ROS(Robot Operating System) framework on a "Raspberry Pi" miniature PC.

The identification of experts for a specific technology or framework produces a large benefit for collaborative software projects. Hence it reduces the communication overhead that is required to identify an expert on the fly. Therefore this thesis describes a tool and approach that can be used to identify an expert that has a specific skill-set. It will mainly focus on the skills and expertise of developers that use the Django framework. By adding more rules to our framework that approach could easily be extended for different technologies or frameworks. The paper will close with a case study on an open source project.
Polsearchine: Implementation of a policy-based search engine for regulating information flows
(2013)
Many search engines regulate Internet communication in some way. It is often difficult for end users to notice such regulation, as well as obtaining background information for it. Additionally, the regulation can usually be circumvented easily. This bachelor thesis presents the prototypical metasearch engine "Polsearchine" for addressing these weaknesses. Its regulation is established through InFO, a model for regulating information flows developed by Kasten and Scherp. More precisely, the extension for regulating search engines SEFCO is being used. For retrieving search results, Polsearchine uses an external search engine API. The API can be interchanged easily to make this metasearch engine independent from one specific API.
This paper critically examines the Google Calendar. For this purpose, the offered functions of the core product are studied on privacy aspects. On one hand, it is identified, to which extent the product could infringe the users" privacy, on the other accuring risks are discussed. Furthermore, the functions in terms of their use for both, the service provider Google and for the user, are considered. A detailed analysis demonstrates the critical aspects, in which we have to decide between privacy and functionality. The identified solutions to minimize discussed risks of IT security mechanisms, are presented, discussed and analyzed in terms of their feasibility. Afterwards the individual solutions are summarized in a security concept and other requirements are explained. Finally, a Firefox-Addon which implements the described solution concept should be created, to resolve the existing weaknesses to the best of its ability. Ultimately, the functionality of the addon with technical implementation is illustrated in detail.

The main goal of this paper is to ascertain, if neural networks (especially LSTM) are helpful in predicting processes by making predictions as accurately as possible.
TensorFlow is the used framework in Python to build recurrent neural networks. Two networks are built, whereby one is used for training and the other one for prediction.
Used datasets contain several processes with several events each. With those processes, the network ist trained and afterwards, the parameters are saved. The network for prediction uses these parameters to make predictions.
The neural network is able to make clear predictions about subsequent events. Even branches can be predicted.
When developed further, integration in other programs is possible. It is recommended to use unique names for the events or to rename them.
The goal of this work is evaluation and optimization of several eye-tracking algorithms for estimation of relevant features regarding accuracy. The extracted features are pupil- and glintcenters. The algorithms are applicable to off the shelf cameras. A synthetic model of the eye was modified and utilized. The model was used to supply ground truth for the evaluation of the methods.
In order to simulate realistic motion sequences, muscles must be able to be modelled anatomically correct. Yet it is only possible in SimPack to define muscles as a straight line between two points. This thesis presents an approach where ellipses can be defined through which a muscle must pass. The main problem is to calculate the length of this muscle through the ellipses. An algorithm is presented that calculates the shortest path of a muscle path through this ellipses. This algorithm is then implemented in Fortran 90 and integrated into an existing muscle model in SimPack.

In this thesis criteria and requirements for a successful collaboration platform for the improvement of communication between scientific institutes of the railway industry distributed worldwide are developed and evaluated. First, an introduction to collaboration platforms and their current market situation and trends will be given. The result-ing knowledge will be used for a qualitative content analysis in the form of interviews with the target group of the planned collaboration platform. Based on the basic knowledge and the interviews carried out, hypotheses for communication in scientific institutes will then be formed. These hypotheses serve to create a questionnaire for a quantitative survey of the target group. The following analysis of general collaboration platforms and those of the railway industry provides further insights and describes requirements for a successful conception of a collaboration platform.
A subsequently planned conception of this platform cannot be carried out within the scope of this research work due to a lack of meaningful results and information. The planned quantitative content analysis was too complex for the chosen research context. In this research work, the quantitative questioning will be prepared for the following research work in this topic area. Further work results will be evaluated and made available for the following research work.

Texture-based text detection in digital images using wavelet features and support vector machines
(2010)
In this bachelor thesis a new texture-based approach for the detection of text in digital images is presented. The procedure can be essentially divided into two main tasks, in detection of text blocks and detection of individual words, whereby the individual words are extracted from the detected text blocks. Roughly, the developed method acts with multiple support vector machines, which classify possible text regions of an image into real text regions, using wavelet-based features. In the process the possible text regions are defifined by edge projections with diσerent orientations. The results of the approach are X/Y coordinates, width and height of rectangular regions of an image, which contains individual words. This knowledge can be further processed, for example by an optical character recognition software to get the important and useful text information.
Increasing innovation is the main reason of a changing daily work. The interaction of progressing digital technologies and our working society has originated the term “New Work”. “New Work” implies, that like spare time work time becomes part of the world of live. In this context, the self-responsibility, self-determination and self-realization of an individual in the professional as well as in the private environment is important.
The subject of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the meaning of “New Work”. Also the components and the background is considered in detail by the literature analysis in order to answer the first research question "What is the meaning of the term “New Work" in research and practice?". For this purpose, the central contents of digitalization and technology, structure of work as well as work attitude of “New Work” are taken up and explicitly examined. What perception and what benefits employees and entrepreneurs have in relation to these contents is analyzed in the present bachelor thesis on the basis of a qualitative study. The collected results from the expert interviews also provide a comparison between entrepreneurs and employees understanding, attitude and feelings towards “New Work”.
The interviews show, that “New Work” has a positive influence on the personal and the professional development of individuals. In addition, “New Work” has created new perspectives and requirements for workers and employers. “New Work” is focusing on goal-oriented working attitude and displaces time-oriented work. Through the realization and implementation of these new perspectives and requirements, it results in a fulfilling feeling in the working and living world. Caused by the abolishment of boundaries, “New Work” can be realized. Due to a satisfying profession, the sense and purpose of the work is no longer questioned. The “New Work” development leads to a cultural revolution based and digital changes.
This bachelor thesis examines methods of Social Network Analysis in the context of in-house collaboration platforms and gives an overview of appropriate metrics based on findings in literature. Within this literature analysis advantages in analyzing these enterprise social networks for companies are pointed out. Also possible problems, for example relating to data protection, will be explained. Based on dynamical long-term analysis of the network of UniConnect it was detected, that measures of centrality show the connectedness of an actor. These measures allow drawing conclusions concerning position and function of the employee in the company. Furthermore the complexity of the network can be determined through clique analysis. By viewing at the gradual development of the network, it is possible to identify persons, who are strongly interconnected within a short period of time. These employees have strategic importance relating to knowledge management and the dissemination of information within the company.
Software integration is an engineering task where image-based approaches are still considered slow and error-prone. In this thesis, we apply image-based software integration to the domain of online Poker systems. That is, we implement the poker expert system PokerBot which can play online. We use the method of screen scraping to capture the screen information needed to interact with the Poker server. The consequent use of Template Matching leads to an efficient implementation. Substantial e ort was also addressed to the artificial intelligence aspects of PokerBot. The purpose of AI is here to mimic human playing style by translating a well-documented Pokerguide into formalized, executable language.
Augmented Reality has many areas of application. It can be used to simplify everyday life as well as working processes. However, since there are
many manufacturers that offer greatly varying systems, choosing the correct system according to application as well as cross-platform development are dfficult. This thesis attempts to develop an application which can be used to simulate Augmented Reality devices on Virtual Reality systems. This should simplify the processes of choosing a system as well as cross-platform
development.
Since the simulation will be designed to run on mobile devices, it should be possible to render high quality, realistic environments in advance, using a panoramic image. On a Virtual Reality device, they need to be displayed as a stereoscopic image. To achieve this, several methods are presented that can be used to perform this conversion. An editor will be created which will allow the creation of scenes, configuration of Augmented Reality devices and displaying them on a Virtual Reality system. For closing this thesis a test will be performed, to check the quality of the simulation as well as improvements that can be made.
This Bachelor thesis describes the conception, implementation and evaluation of a playful augmented reality application for mobile devices. Building on the ARCore SDK, the game pARcours was developed, where the player can place virtual objects in the real environment to build their own parcours. This must be flown through with a likewise virtual aircraft. The main focus in the implementation of the game was on the interaction with the virtual objects and the collision detection of these with real surfaces. Furthermore, various input methods for building the parcours and controlling the aircrafts were examined. In a final evaluation both the game and the various input methods could be evaluated, as well as ARCore with regard to the development of augmented reality applications.
This bachelor thesis deals with the concept of a smartphone application for emergencies. It describes the basic problem and provides a conceptual approach.
The core content of this thesis is a requirement analysis of the newly to be designed emergency application. Furthermore the functional and non-functional requirements such as usability are specified to give insights for the concept of the application. In addition, single sub-functions of the mHealth applications of the University Koblenz which exists or are still under construction can be integrated in the future emergency application. Based on the catalog of requirements a market analysis for strengths and weaknesses of existing emergency application systems is realized. In the to-be concept the findings were summarized and possible architectural sketches for future emergency applications were given. Furthermore, one conclusion of dealing with this topic is that a design alone is not sufficient to guarantee a good working app. That is why the requirements for the thesis were expanded by the connection to and integration of rescue centers in the architecture of the emergency app.
At the end of the thesis, the reader will receive a comprehensive overview of the provision of emergency data to the rescue control centers by different transmission channels. Furthermore, conditions for the system requirements are also presented as possible scenarios of the architecture of the whole system of the emergency application. The generic and modular approach guarantees that the system is open for future development and integration of functions of other applications.
