There are a few systems high and low-cost ones for gaze tracking. Normally low-cost systems go in hand with low-resolution cameras. Here the image quality is poor, so the algorithms for detecting the gaze have to work more precisely. But how to test and analyse them correctly, when there is a bad image quality and no reference point known? The idea of this work is, to generate synthetic eye images, where the reference points are known, because they are mainly manually set and then to test and analyse the algorithms with these synthetic images. By switching on features like gaussian noise or a second glint-like reflection point, it is possible to stepwise approximate the synthetic images close to reality. In fact the experiments will lead to an improvement of the algorithms used in a low-resolution system environment.
Unlocking the semantics of multimedia presentations in the web with the multimedia metadata ontology
(2010)
The semantics of rich multimedia presentations in the web such as SMIL, SVG and Flash cannot or only to a very limited extend be understood by search engines today. This hampers the retrieval of such presentations and makes their archival and management a difficult task. Existing metadata models and metadata standards are either conceptually too narrow, focus on a specific media type only, cannot be used and combined together, or are not practically applicable for the semantic description of rich multimedia presentations. In this paper, we propose the Multimedia Metadata Ontology (M3O) for annotating rich, structured multimedia presentations. The M3O provides a generic modeling framework for representing sophisticated multimedia metadata. It allows for integrating the features provided by the existing metadata models and metadata standards. Our approach bases on Semantic Web technologies and can be easily integrated with multimedia formats such as the W3C standards SMIL and SVG. With the M3O, we unlock the semantics of rich multimedia presentations in the web by making the semantics machine-readable and machine-understandable. The M3O is used with our SemanticMM4U framework for the multi-channel generation of semantically-rich multimedia presentations.
TGraphBrowser
(2010)
This thesis describes the implementation of a web server that enables a browser to display graphs created with the Java Graph Laboratory (JGraLab). The user has the choice between a tabular view and a graphical presentation. In both views it is possible to navigate through the graph. Since graphs with thousands of elements may be confusing for the user, he or she is given the option to filter the displayed vertices and edges by their types. Furthermore, the number of graph elements shown can be limited by means of a GreQL query or by directly entering their ids.
Texture-based text detection in digital images using wavelet features and support vector machines
(2010)
In this bachelor thesis a new texture-based approach for the detection of text in digital images is presented. The procedure can be essentially divided into two main tasks, in detection of text blocks and detection of individual words, whereby the individual words are extracted from the detected text blocks. Roughly, the developed method acts with multiple support vector machines, which classify possible text regions of an image into real text regions, using wavelet-based features. In the process the possible text regions are defifined by edge projections with diσerent orientations. The results of the approach are X/Y coordinates, width and height of rectangular regions of an image, which contains individual words. This knowledge can be further processed, for example by an optical character recognition software to get the important and useful text information.
A network like the internet is a set of subnets that are connected to each other by a router. A router is a computer, containing multiple network devices to be connected to multiple subnets. So, it is able to forward packages from one subnet to another. A network can be represented as a graph with its routers as vertices and subnets as edges. This graph is called the topology of the network. A packet send to a host outside the own subnet usually will be send first to the so-called default router. This router (like any router) contains a table (the so-called forwarding table) with every subnet. Additionally for each net, the table contains the router through which the subnet can be reached best. So, the packet will be forwarded from router to router until it reaches the destination subnet. On this way every router looks up in its forwarding table for the best next router. A routing protocol takes care of the automatic exchange of informations between the routers to build the forwarding tables and keep them up to date. If the forwarding tables of all routers are up to date the network is called convergent. The time needed to build or update the routing tables is called the convergence time The RIP routing protocol is a well known and well explored distance vector protocol. But there are only few examinations about the convergence properties (e.g. the time needed to converge or the traffic volume produced by the routing messages). This work tries to examine a relationship between the topology properties of a network and the convergence properties of the rip routing protocol. Therefore, over 5000 single measurements were performed and statistically analyzed. Mathematical formulas have been derived from the results that are able to approximate the convergence properties of a network from its topology properties.
The present work starts with an introduction of methods for three-dimensional curve skeletonization. Different kinds of historic and recent skeletonization approaches are analysed in detail. Later on, a state-of-the-art skeletonization algorithm is introduced. This algorithm deals as a basis for the own approach presented subsequently. After the description and definition of a new method improving the state-of-the-art algorithm, experiments are conducted to get appraisable results. Next, a ground truth is described which has been set up manually by humans. The human similarity evaluations are compared with the results of the automatic computer-based similarity measures provided by the own approach. For this comparison, standard evaluation criteria from the field of information retrieval have been used.
So far VNUML (Virtual Network User Mode Linux) has been used by the group for Computer Networks at the University of Koblenz in such a way as to test its own protocol enhancement for RIP (Routing Information Protocol) on strengths and weaknesses. The modified version of RIP is called RMTI (RIP with minimal topology information). In particular, special test scenarios have been used to investigate wether a Count-to-Infinity (CTI) problem can be completely avoided and how quickly the network converges after the failure or breakdown of a router. Tius thesis investigates whether the MTI enhancement also provides for better performance in larger networks. Furthermore, it will be investigated if it is worth using the script tool EDIV ((spanish: Escenarios DIstribuidos con VNUML, english: Distributed Scenarios using VNUML) due to its enhanced scalability and whether the distribution of an XML scenario on several computers has a significant impact on the convergence time. Apart from simulations, test scenarios will be developed and tested in order to generate results about the efficiency and scalability of the Distance Vector Routing Protocol.
Although e-participation is becoming more and more important, security risks and requirements are so far only superficially regarded. This master thesis aims at contribute to security and privacy of e-participation applications. This paper deals with the users of electronic participation forms. Since personal data has to be transmitted in the e-participation process, systems require trustworthiness, privacy, transparency, availability and legal security between public administration and users. Therefore it is very important to ensure the most of security and privacy standards in information and communication technologies by the administration and the citizens to provide the necessary confidence in using e participation applications. This master thesis examines different e-participation platforms of the areas participatory budgeting, e-consultations, party websites, and e-petitions and explores at first which influence of sensitive e-participation systems on the political system they have. Subsequently, the current safety standard of the e-participation applications is determined. For this purpose an analysis framework is used, regarding on relevant security and privacy issues for e-participation. Based on the results safety levels are deduced from different types of e-participation applications. In addition recommendations for the constitution of e-participation are concluded, which helps to make e participation applications more secure. Furthermore, future technologies with the potential to improve security in the use of electronic public participation are presented.
