In the age of Web 2.0 the internet as a platform to provide services or sell goods gained more attention in companies. Especially for customer support customer forums can be a useful tool for companies. By providing customer forums, companies can reduce their support costs dramatically. Nevertheless, it is often difficult for companies to measure the success of customer forums. In the research literature the determinants of success of customer forums have seldom been studied. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to fill this research gap by applying the model of Lin and Lee to measure the success of online-communities on customer forums. In addition, metrics for measuring the success of this model are discussed. The discussion of this topic leads to the conclusion that the model of Lin and Lee is mostly applicable for customer forums, and provides a useful approach to measuring suc-cess both in theory and in practice. This could be demonstrated by the example of the 1&1 customer forum. The metrics that were found in the theoretical part were quite relevant in practice. Nevertheless, future research should focus more on monetary indicators to also make success of customer forums financially assessable.
In the last few years, information technology experienced a great increase. People and Enterprises are able to exchange information through the development of the Web 2.0 to the Social Web. Social Networks like Facebook or Xing, blogs from known and unknown people or the many discussion forums are common platforms where people have the opportunity to share and exchange information. Enterprises and people have to accept this fact and development. The reputation is also influenced by the overabundance of information. The result of this development is the digital reputation, which extend the entire reputation. Everyone who is looking for an order or a job can assume that his orrnher name will be "googled", whether he or she is a part of an internet branch or not. Every information is available through search engines. Just a quick look at the Facebook or Xing profile is needed to get a brief impression of someone. The communications expert Klaus Eck said that someone who takes the internet seriously will get a benefit for the development of his digital reputation. This research work will show you through a self made questionnaire what is seen as positive and negative influences on the reputation in Social Networks and how the digital reputation impacts the entire reputation.
The animation of models has become an important part in different areas of everyday life. It is a demanding task for computer graphics to generate
a natural deformation of organic models. Skinning is a common method to animate models without animating each vertex individually. The skin of the model deforms automatically by manipulating individual bones of a skeleton.
This bachelor thesis deals with the most common algorithm, linear blend skinning and aims to find some optimizations regarding the visual effect
and performance. Additionally it presents certain instancing methods which are combined with the skinning methods in the application to show the advantages and disadvantages of the latter.
New techniques concerning the automatic identification of objects (Auto-ID) show unique potential for being used in the economy. This paper focuses on the technology of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and examines its uses and potentials regarding selected economic sectors. In the course of this paper, RFID will be directly compared to the bar code, the currently most prevalent system for object identification in the economy. To this end, the different basic modes of operation of both technologies will be introduced, and differences between their technical realizations will be brought to light. Moreover, this paper distinguishes and evaluates both technologies with regards to their potential use in three different branches of industry. Their differentiation provides the basis for determining and evaluating the RFID technology- probability of replacing the bar code in the consumer goods sector, the logistic sector, and the pharmaceutic sector.
Simulation of fractures
(2014)
Real-time computing often avoids the simulation of fractures due to its complexity. The field of engineering science provides methods to create these simulations to improve games and other applications. Steadily rising computer capacities allow suitable simulations on a real-time basis and make this aspect increasingly interesting. The topic and aim of this research is to simulate fractures of stiff bodies. The primary objective is the physical plausibility and performance of the application. This thesis analyses the potential of computer science to realize the simulation of fractures.
Three existing as well as one self-created were implemented and analysed. The works "Real time simulation of deformation and Fracture of stiff material" from Müller et al., "real time simulation of Brittle Fracture using Modal analysis" from Glondu et al. and "Fast and Controllable simulation of the Shattering of Brittle Objects" from Smith et al. form the basis of this thesis. The introduced methods use different computation of forces and fractures. The developed procedure uses the idea of generating secondary breaks. The approaches were implemented based on the Bullet physics-engine. The results of the work show that physically based breaks are realizable on a real-time basis.
The analysis of the physical methods demonstrates that their performance mainly depends on the constitution of the used objects. This thesis shows that the further investigation of this topic can discover new possibilities. The improvement of the realism in virtual worlds can be achieved by executing physically plausible methods.
The transport of pesticides from agricultural land into surface waters via diffuse entry pathways such as runoff is a major threat to aquatic ecosystems and their communities. Although certain risk mitigation measures are currently stipulated during pesticide product authorisation, further approaches might be needed to manage hot spots of pesticide exposure. Such a management is, for example, required by the European Union- directive for the sustainable use pesticides (2009/128/EC).
The need for mitigation measures was investigated within the present thesis at stream sites draining an arable and a vineyard region in Germany by characterising pesticide exposure following edge-of-field runoff and (expected) effects on the aquatic macroinvertebrates. The results of these field studies showed, that streams in both regions were exposed to pesticide concentrations suggesting effects on the macroinvertebrate community. In the arable region the observed toxicity was mainly attributed to the insecticides lambda-cyhalothrin (in the water-phase samples) and alpha-cypermethrin (in the suspended particle samples), whereas in the vineyard region fungicides were most important. Furthermore stream water and suspended particles sampled in the vineyard region showed critical copper concentrations, which might cause ecotoxicological effects in the field. In addition to pesticide exposure, in the arable region also the effects on aquatic macroinvertebrates were assessed in the field. Generally, invertebrate fauna was dominated by pesticide-tolerant species, which suggested a high pesticide exposure at almost all sites. The elevated levels of suspended particle contamination in terms of maximum toxic units per sample (logTUMax > -2) reflect also this result. At two sites that received high aqueous-phase entries of the insecticide lambda-cyhalothrin (logTUMax > -0.6), the abundance and number of sensitive species (indicated by the SPEcies At Risk index) decreased during the pesticide application period. In contrast, at sites characterised by low water-phase toxicity (logTUMax < -3.5), no acute significant negative effects on macroinvertebrates were observed. In conclusion these data showed that in both regions the implementation of risk mitigation measures is needed to protect the aquatic communities.
To mitigate runoff-related pesticide entries, riparian buffer strips are often recommended. However, the mitigating influence with increasing buffer strip width could not be demonstrated for riparian buffers which were already present in the arable and vineyard region. This result was attributed in the vineyard region to the high number of paved field paths associated with artificial erosion rills, which concentrate and rapidly transport receiving edge-of-field runoff in stream direction. Consequently the pesticide reduction efficiency of buffer strips is considerably reduced. We assumed that a similar process occurred in the arable region, due to a high number of erosion rills, which complicate a laminar sheet flow of edge-of-field runoff through the riparian buffer strip. Additionally also the presence of ephemeral drainage ditches, which led surface runoff from the agricultural fields to the streams may have contributed to observed pesticide entries despite wide buffers.
Effective risk mitigation measures should address these identified most important input pathways in the study areas. As possible measures the implementation of grassed field paths and vegetated ditches or wetlands were suggested. In general also the improvement of currently present riparian buffer strips regarding their efficiency to reduce pesticide runoff entries should be taken into account. In conclusion the results of the field studies underline the importance that risk mitigation measures are identified specifically for the respective pollution situation in stream catchments. To facilitate this process, a user guide was developed within the present thesis for identifying appropriate mitigation measures at high-risk sites. Based on a survey of exposure relevant landscape parameter a set of risk mitigation measures is suggested that focus on the specific pollution situation. Currently the guide includes 12 landscape- and six application-related measures and presents an overview of these measures" efficiency to reduce pesticide entries via runoff and spray drift, their feasibility and expected acceptability to farmers. Based on this information the user can finally choose the mitigation measures for implementation. The present guide promotes the practical implementation of appropriate risk mitigation measures in pesticide-polluted streams, and thus the protection of aquatic stream communities against pesticide entries.
A guideline for the examination of business models is developed in this research project and M.Sc. study, focusing on young, innovative enterprises ("start-ups"). Start-ups often start to operate in uncertainty and tentativeness. To forecast the success of such an enterprise is therefore today hardly possible by means of quantitative data. The evaluation of innovative business models ("Business Model Check") today is a gap in Business Administration and Management studies.
Entscheidungsverhalten unter Unsicherheit mit Berücksichtigung von Persönlichkeitseigenschaften
(2014)
The subject of this Bachelor Thesis is the research of decision-making in consideration of personal characteristics. One part of this thesis should analyze the uncertainty and the risk of decision-making and explain which differences a decision-maker is faced with. The other part should compare different groups of people and point out that these groups are faced with different problems in their decision making process. The differences in these groups are based on demographical and personal characteristics, such as the type of profession or the level of knowledge. The conclusion of this paper is to assign different types of heuristics, logics, theories and other decision-supporting tools to the different groups of people.
This thesis imparts a general view of the mechanics and implementation of latest voxelization strategies using the GPU. In addition to established voxelization procedures using the rasterization pipeline, new possibilities arising from GPGPU programming are examined. On the basis of the programming language C++ and the graphics library OpenGL the implementation of several methods is explained. The methods are compared in terms of performance and quality of the resulting voxelization and are evaluated critically with regards to possible use cases. Furthermore, two exemplary applications are detailed that use a voxelized scene in such a way that the augmentation of established techniques of real time graphics are facilitated. To this end, the concepts and the implementations of Transmittance Shadow Mapping and of Reflective Shadow Mapping utilizing a voxel based ambient occlusion effect is explained. Finally, the prolonging relevance of voxelization is put into prospect, by addressing latest research and further enhancements and applications of the presented methods.
This work is mainly concerned with multiple goals as indicators of stable as well as situation-specific motivation. During school lessons, pupils strive for competence-oriented goals as well as goals which target psychological well-being. The goal to enlarge one- competence and to acquire deeper knowledge (mastery goal), to attain normative competence (performance approach goal) as well as the goal to avoid the demonstration of lack ofrncompetence (performance avoidance goal) belong to the category of academic goals. The category of well-being goals includes the goal to avoid hard work (work avoidance goal) as well as the aim to interact socially with relevant peers (affiliation goal).
It is still unclear, however, if goals are best defined as fluctuating state or stable trait variables. Here, both aspects of goals are conceptualized differentially and their connection is explored in two studies based on a longitudinal design. Another question that is raised here is concerned with the explanation of state-goal-genesis. Different motivational theories serve as the basis for the development of a new framework model, which explores the genesis of state goal-components due to trait goal-components, situational appraisals and their interaction. In the literature, three effect models between appraisals and trait goals regarding the state goals are identified: a) appraisals and trait goals might predict state goals additively (additive effect), b) trait goals might influence the state goals mediated by the appraisals (reactive effect), or c) the trait goals may have differential effects on the state goals for low or high values of the appraisals (interaction effect). Moreover, assumptions on proximal consequences of state-goals are made within the framework model.
Study 1 comprised of two samples (N = 197 and N = 297). Both multiple goal factors as well as their state- and trait-components were validated empirically in a longitudinal design. State goal measures proved to be sensitive to situational influences and to be differentially valid compared to trait goal measures. Study 2 primarily dealt with the explanationrnof the genesis of state goals in actual learning situations. The basic assumptions of the framework model as well as the three effect models were explored systematically in a longitudinal design (N = 542). As expected, competence oriented goals correlated with adaptive indicators of learning processes (e.g., flow), while the well-being goals did not. The additive effect hypothesis was confirmed while the reactive effect hypothesis was rejected. With the help of latent moderator models, some interaction effects were identified which showed that trait goals were differentially predictive for state goals depending on the level of situational appraisals.
Tiny waves driven by wind, shallow, long waves, head overlapping sea, all of these waves occur in every ocean and even in small lakes. The surface of water is one of the most versatile phenomenas of nature. Not only the movement of waves, but also the reflection of sky, sun and coastline makes the surface of water unique. Exactly this complexity is what brings its own challenges to the simulation of water surfaces. That is why simulation of water occupies mathematicians with a challenge for nearly 400 years now.
In the last fifty years this challenge has more and more shifted to computer science. Computer graphic designers have tried to visualise water in a realistic manner for centuries. Science in this field expends from simple noise filters to mathematically complex solutions like Fourier Transformation.
In the following work historical background of todays wave theories, as well as mathematical fundamentals are given. The focus of this work is set on the implementation of these methods in OpenGL 3.3.
(2014)
In this bachelor thesis an existing generic concept and an existing prototype for a smartphone application to record, monitor and document physical symptoms or observations of the human body are being extended. The existing funktionalities are being complemented by analysis of the previous Prototype. The concept and its Function modules, which are implemented in the existing prototype for the mobile platform Android, are being extended based on their analysed weaknesses. The resulting prototype and generic concept are evaluated and optimizations and extensions are being collected for further projects.
In this thesis, the methods of a feasibility study are applied to analyze whether or not the foundation of an academic based startup focusing on IT-consulting is possible. For this purpose the concept of consulting, the demand for the offering of consulting services as well as the relevant market are analyzed. Furthermore, empirical research through face-to-face interviews with IT-companies located in the region of Koblenz is utilized in order to gain further insight about the feasibility of said business venture. The result of the research is to be presented in a concrete recommendation for further actions.

This work presents an application for simulation objects, which can change their aggregate states between solid and liquid using a temperature system. The focal points are the simulation of fluids with a particle system, the generation of a surface and the visualization of metal. The application should be interactive and match the real time conditions. Different types of Shader are used for the parallelized computations on the GPU. Also more options to use the application and possible improvements are presented.
Systems to simulate crowd-behavior are used to simulate the evacuation of a crowd in case of an emergency. These systems are limited to the moving-patterns of a crowd and are generally not considering psychological and/or physical conditions. Changing behaviors within the crowd (e.g. by a person falling down) are not considered.
For that reason, this thesis will examine the psychological behavior and the physical impact of a crowd- member on the crowd. In order to do so, this study develops a real-time simulation for a crowd of people, adapted from a system for video games. This system contains a behavior-AI for agents. In order to show physical interaction between the agents and their environment as well as their movements, the physical representation of each agent is realized by using rigid bodies from a physics-engine. The movements of the agents have an additional navigation mesh and an algorithm for collision avoidance.
By developing a behavior-AI a physical and psychological state is reached. This state contains a psychological stress-level as well as a physical condition. The developed simulation is able to show physical impacts such as crowding and crushing of agents, interaction of agents with their environment as well as factors of stress.
By evaluating several tests of the simulation, this thesis examines whether the combination of physical and psychological impacts is implementable successfully. If so, this thesis will be able to give indications of an agent- behavior in dangerous and/or stressful situations as well as a valuation of the complex physical representation.
This thesis presents a prototypical application for speech therapy as a therapeutical tool, simulating the articulation of German phonemes and the swallowing reflex. A special attention is given to a three-dimensional visualization of anatomical models of the pharyngolaryngeal region, which can be used in an interactive way. For examining the benefits of such an application in relation to conventional therapy mediums, the thesis considers iteratively the requirements of speech therapists.
(2014)
This scientific paper identifies and describes the incentives for the utilization of knowledge for universities and small and medium-sized companies. In addition, different models " for example the Knott/Wildavsky model " are continuously adapted, created and expanded, which leads to an new integrative model. The main problem is that companies have to integrate knowledge from external sources into their operations. According to the literature, this model of open innovation is considered as inevitable in order to remain competitive. This is especially the case for small and medium-sized companies. The reasons for this are illustrated as the possibilities of a successful collaboration. Germany has a relativley high involvement in knowledge and technology transfer in international comparison. Nevertheless, a number of companies assume their insitution won´t benefit from knowledge utilization.
The literature review revealed that there is no existing model, which combines the stages of knowledge utilization with the incentives of universities and companies. This paper closes the identified gap through the created integrative model. The formulated incentive factors can help universities and companies recognizing if a cooperated research is beneficial or not.
At the beginning the basic theoretical foundations are defined based on the literature review, followed by a description of the incentive factors of knowledge exploitation. On the one hand there is a distinction between tangible and intangible incentives. On the other hand there is a segmentation of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Both are important regarding to the motivation of employees and scientists. In the end, a knowledge utilization model is presented and adapted to the present case, before proceeding with the extension of the model providing an additional perspective and adding the incentive factors.
By the procedure described an integrative model is created. It can be useful to all affected people, universities and their scientists as well as small and medium-sized companies and their employees.
The initial problem that motivated this thesis is the lock of possibility to represent finished theses by students of the research group BAS. Many finished thesis are only available in a printed version. Some of the students created their own websites but these are not uniform.
The first step to solve this problem is to create an overall research design. The research design of this thesis based on the construction-oriented approach of design science research by Hevner [2007]. The initial problem will be solved by creating a Web 2.0 website. Therefore the open source content management system Drupal is used. For the implementation of the target system, a set of requirements will be collected. This set of requirements will be collected by using various methods such like mock ups, interviews, collaboration scenarios and personas. To meet the collected requirements a set of additional modules will be added to the core version of Drupal. This advanced version of Drupal will be scenario and user tested. A result of this work is a deployable prototype, with which it is possible to present various theses. A further result will be user guides that describe the operation of the prototype. This thesis finishes with a conclusion and an outlook on the further use of the prototype.
Abstract 3 This paper explains the convolution reverb, a method that enables users to add realistic sounding reverberation to audio material that was recorded in neutral sounding rooms. In particular, the possibility of computing the effect on the GPU using OpenCL is discussed, to make use of the high concurrency of the problem. This paper aims at the development of a VST plugin that utilizes the GPU accelerated convolution algorithm, so that it can be used for audio software solutions.
The present thesis covers the implementation and optimization of global illumination in three-dimensional scenes. Global illumination does not only consider direct illumination dependent on one or more light sources, but also indirect illumination which is emitted by surrounding objects in the scene. The thesis focuses on the implementation of a global illumination method and its improvement using OpenGL 4.4. This is done by a voxelization of the scene. By traversing the resulting voxel structure, additional information is taken from the scene, which contributes to a plausible global illumination.
The goal of this thesis is the development of methods for augmented image synthesis using 3D photo collections. 3D photo collections are representations of real scenes automatically generated from single photos and describe a scene as a set of images with known camera poses as well as a sparse point-based model of the scene geometry. The main goal is to perform a photo-realistic augmented image synthesis of real and virtual parts, where the real scene is provided as a 3D photo collection. Therefore, three main problems are addressed.
Since the photos may be represented in different device-specific RGB color spaces, a color characterization of the 3D photo collections is necessary to gain correct color information that is consistent with human perception. The proposed novel method automatically transforms all images into a common RGB color space and thereby simplifies color characterization of 3D photo collections.
As a main problem for augmented image synthesis, all environmental lighting has to be known in order to apply illumination to virtual parts that is consistent with the real portions shown in the photos. To solve this problem, two novel methods were developed to reconstruct the lighting from 3D photo collections.
In order to perform image synthesis for arbitrary views on the scene, an image-based approach was developed that generates new views in 3D photo collections making direct use of its point cloud. The novel method creates new views in real-time and allows free-navigation.
In conclusion, the proposed novel methods show that 3D photo collections are a useful representation for real scenes in Augmented Reality and they can be used to perform a realistic image synthesis of real and virtual portions.
This study examined whether positive resource change and two types of baseline stressors would influence general life satisfaction and satisfaction with health at the end of treatment in mothers attending an inpatient rehabilitation or preventive program for mothers, fathers and children. Parenting self-efficacy was included as an indicator of resources while baseline distress was operationalized in terms of parenting-related stressors and depressive symptoms, respectively. Drawing on Hobfoll- conservation of resources theory, it was hypothesized that resource change and baseline stressors would interact in their effect on satisfaction measures at the end of the preventive/rehabilitation program: resource gains were expected to influence satisfaction more strongly in patients who reported higher stress levels at baseline (as compared to patients with lower baseline distress; primary research question). Hypotheses were tested using a sample of N=1724 female prevention and rehabilitation patients by means of structural equation modeling including latent interactions. Results showed that parenting-related stressors were negatively associated with general satisfaction as well as satisfaction with health while resource gains had a small positive effect on satisfaction. There was, however, no significant interaction of parenting-related stressors and positive resource change. When depressive symptoms were included as a measure of baseline distress, they were negatively associated with both facets of satisfaction. In these models, there were only small positive associations of resource gains and satisfaction measures. Again, no interaction effects were found. Additional analyses that comprised both stressor types as predictors showed that the effects of depressive symptoms on satisfaction were more pronounced than the influence of parenting-related stressors; the effects of resource gains were small to negligible. In addition, it was examined whether problem-oriented coping strategies mediated the influence of positive resource change on general life satisfaction and satisfaction with health, respectively (secondary research question). Correlations between coping, resource change and satisfaction were low or not significant. Given this lack of direct associations between the relevant variables, no further path analytic testing was performed; the hypothesized mediating role of problem-oriented coping could thus not be confirmed. All in all, study results show that contrary to the hypotheses derived from conservation of resources theory, the effects of positive resource change and distress indicators on patients" life satisfaction and satisfaction with health were not interdependent.
Data Mining im Fußball
(2014)
The term Data Mining is used to describe applications that can be applied to extract useful information from large datasets. Since the 2011/2012 season of the german soccer league, extensive data from the first and second Bundesliga have been recorded and stored. Up to 2000 events are recorded for each game.
The question arises, whether it is possible to use Data Mining to extract patterns from this extensive data which could be useful to soccer clubs.
In this thesis, Data Mining is applied to the data of the first Bundesliga to measure the value of individual soccer players for their club. For this purpose, the state of the art and the available data are described. Furthermore, classification, regression analysis and clustering are applied to the available data. This thesis focuses on qualitative characteristics of soccer players like the nomination for the national squad or the marks players get for their playing performance. Additionally this thesis considers the playing style of the available players and examines if it is possible to make predictions for upcoming seasons. The value of individual players is determined by using regression analysis and a combination of cluster analysis and regression analysis.
Even though not all applications can achieve sufficient results, this thesis shows that Data Mining has the potential to be applied to soccer data. The value of a player can be measured with the help of the two approaches, allowing simple visualization of the importance of a player for his club.
