Innovation can help a forward-looking company to rise up very quickly, furthermore, innovative products and services bring a company to a stage where it can win new segments of customers and be ahead of the competition. For their innovation process, the companies can distinguish between open and closed innovation. In this case, we will focus on open innovation and how companies share their innovation processes for the benefit of the company. They use information and innovation systems to define their innovation process, as well as, track innovative ideas and the phase of their development. There are always pros and cons when it comes to open innovation processes in an organization. We will try to look at certain examples in the business world to illustrate how good or bad an open innovation process can be for a company. In this Bachelor thesis, we will try to point out the essential criteria for an open innovation process and illustrate companies which have used open innovation processes. In some cases it went successfully and for some companies it went unsuccessfully.
The maintenance strategy “predictive maintenance”, which is characterized by predicting the failure behavior of technical units based on modern sensor technology, plays a key role in smart factories against the background of an industry 4.0. This paper contains an evaluation of the current state of research on this strategy and gives an overview of the areas of application to date. With the aid of a qualitative video analysis, the implementation in the industries and company divisions involved and the type of goods monitored are examined. The analyzed video clips were uploaded to YouTube for example for marketing purposes by various companies with different perspectives on predictive maintenance. The video analysis was realized by applying a previously defined coding plan to the video material. The results show a predominant application in the manufacturing industry, in which predictive maintenance is used to monitor plants and machines. In addition, the strategy is also mainly applied to means of transport used for freight and passenger transport in various infrastructures. As a result of the video analysis, the currently high need for explanation of predictive maintenance becomes visible. By looking at these explanations, one also learns something about the special features that distinguish it from other maintenance strategies.
Digitalisation and further media development are core processes of the current digital age. In order for companies to benefit from technical progress, their employees must have or are expected to acquire the relevant skills. Companies therefore are faced with the task of not being overwhelmed with the mass of innovations and opportunities and, in the best-case scenario, of being able to use them to improve their own performance.
Small and medium-sized enterprises represent 99% of all enterprises in Germany. Though, it has not been further established, how the majority of small enterprises and their employees participate in this development. The research question therefore consists of two parts. On the one hand: "Is the promotion of employees' skills taken care of in micro-enterprises?" and on the other hand: "Where are the opportunities and challenges for companies of this size?”
In order to answer the research question, a qualitative research method was used, the guideline-based interview. The interviewed companies were all in the media and IT sector. Thus, the recorded and transcribed data provided a real insight into the current situation in micro-enterprises.
The responses to the interviews showed that companies with very small numbers of employees are more dependent on their employees than others. So, the commitment of the employees is decisive for the success of the company itself. It is the management's task to promote this and ensure employee satisfaction.
Companies that pay more attention to employee development are therefore more recommendable for career starters who need and/or want to develop themselves and their entire horizon of experience.
This thesis deals with quality assurance of model-based SRS, in particular SRS-Models and SRS-Diagrams. The interesting thing about model-based SRS is that they are generated by a documentation generator based on the following input data: SRS-Model, SRS-Diagrams and texts external to the model. Therefore to assure the quality of the documentation the quality of their four factors must be assured, which are the SRS-Model, SRS-Diagrams, external texts and the documentation generator. The thesis" goal is to define a quality connotation for SRS-Models and -Diagrams and to show an approach for realizing automatically quality testing, measurement and assessment for the modelling tool Innovator.
This master thesis is about the possibilities of supporting local corporate sales with the help of current mobile applications. The internet already has served in order to make the trading market more dynamic. The conditions for long-term local corporate sales have become more challenging. Because of smaller cost structures online-retailer offer prizes on which local point of sales can hardly keep up with. Another point is that more customers decide to order online because the service in e-shops enhanced; therefore, the digital transactions become more attractive for consumers. Today smartphones and tablets have brought the digitalization to a whole new level. With the possibility of Mobile Web the effects that the internet already showed us in the past have been intensified. The question that proposes here is: In which way do the conditions of competitions for local corporate sales change? This paper follows the outline of putting together various mobile services, their functions, and their practical usage, as well as the process of integrating them successfully into marketing. With that one should be able to find out if Mobile Web can be seen as an advantage for local corporates sales.
Purpose: The present research aims on the one hand to provide a basic understanding of the challenges that young companies in growth face by discussing previous findings on this topic. On the other hand, this research project wants to generate new insights on specific challenges and possible learning processes by means of a theory-based examination of a case study.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The author of this study conducts a theory-based case study investigation. The study is based on two theoretical concepts which depict the phenomenon of challenges faced by young companies in growth in an abstract form: On the one hand, the "Tension-Balancing Management" according to Harald von Korflesch, which expresses the fundamental tension within entrepreneurial organizations, which in turn can be seen as a starting point for actual challenges. On the other hand, the "Tipping Points / Absorbative Capacities" framework by Phelps and colleagues, which links challenges (Tipping Points) that young companies will experience during their lifetime with required capabilities (Absorbative Capacities). Guided by these theories, rich data from interviews, observations and documents from the case are collected and analyzed in order to generate insights.
Findings: On the one hand, challenges of young growing companies can be described on a superordinate level with the help of the two theoretical concepts. On the other hand, the analysis also shows that, above all, a fine-grained, individual approach is needed to adequately depict challenges and learning processes.
Research Limitations: The main limitation of the present study is the single-case design. The fact that only one specific case was examined means that the insights gained from this cannot be automatically replicated to comparable cases. The simultaneous examination of multiple cases could thus make the results more stable.
Originality/Value: The qualitative investigation of growth-related challenges by means of a specific case study creates an in-depth and profound understanding of complex interactions in the growth of young companies. In addition, the assumptions of both theoretical concepts are tested on a real case, thus enabling theoretical and practical implications to be identified.
In this bachelor thesis a database for worldwide railway national investigation bodies is created. It contains contact details of those authorities as well as information of public accident investigation reports. The database is intended to serve as a basis for information and data acquisition of railway accidents. The information that can be taken from the investigation reports is an important element for a possible economical evaluation and for the efficiency of safety technologies. Besides the basics of the national investigation bodies, accident investigation reports and the efficiency calculation of safety technologies the thesis presents an evaluation of the existing investigation bodies and reports in the database. Also the usefulness of the database of accident investigation bodies will be explained and the potential impact on railway safety will be examined.
The search for scientific literature in scientific information systems is a discipline at the intersection between information retrieval and digital libraries. Recent user studies show two typical weaknesses of the classical IR model: ranking of retrieved and maybe relevant documents and the language problem during the query formulation phase. At the same time traditional retrieval systems that rely primarily on textual document and query features are stagnating for years, as it could be observed in IR evaluation campaigns such as TREC or CLEF. Therefore alternative approaches to surpass these two problem fields are needed. Two different search support systems are presented in this work and evaluated with a lab evaluation using the IR test collection GIRT and iSearch with 150 and 65 topics, respectively. These two systems are (1) a query expansion that is based on the analysis of co-occurrences of document attributes and (2) a ranking mechanism that applies informetric analysis of the productivity of information producers in the information production process. Both systems were compared to a baseline system using the Solr search engine. Both methods showed positive effects when applying additional document attributes like author names, ISSN codes and controlled terms. The query expansion showed an improvement in precision (bpref +12%) and in recall (R +22%).
he alternative ranking methods were able to compete with the baseline for author names and ISSN codes and were able to beat the baseline by using controlled terms (MAP +14%). A clear negative influence was seen when using entities like publishers or locations. Both methods were able to generate a substantially different sorting of the result set, measured using Kendall. So, additional to the improved relevance in the result list, the user can get a new and different view on the document set. Query expansion using author names, ISSN codes and thesaurus terms showed great potential that lies within the rich metadata sets of digital library systems. The proposed ranking methods could outperform standard relevance ranking methods after they were filtered by the existence of a so-called power law. This showed that the proposed ranking methods cannot be used universally in any case but require specific frequency distributions in the metadata. A connection between the underlying informetric laws of Bradford, Lotka and Zipf is made clear. The evaluated methods were implemented as interactive search supporting systems that can be used in an interactive prototype and the social science digital library system Sowiport. Besides that, the methods are adaptable to other systems and environments using a free software framework and a web API.
The impact of innovation in order to secure a company- existence is increasing. Especially in the field of information and communication systems, modified conditions, reduced product life cycles (in some markets e.g. in the software market down to a few months), and increased competition force many companies to adapt their innovation speed. Long-term profit will just be obtained by those companies that will manage to consolidate or further to enlarge their competitive position with technological innovation. The increasing relevance of new developments requires a separate treatment of technological innovations and demands for a technology and innovation management. Not every innovation is thereby a result of a single, spontaneous idea. Many innovations evolve from the integration or combination of already existing technologies. Especially in markets with insignificant growing rates, this kind of innovation is quite important. The purpose of this article is a case-oriented identification of existing deficiencies within established recommendations for a strategic technology and innovation management and the discussion about the role of modularity and technology integration as an alternative way to innovate.
“Mittelstand” businesses are the backbone of the German economy. To operate effectively, these businesses require sufficient financing provided through adequate financing instruments. Yet, which characteristics do capital seekers value in adequate financing instruments? Despite the macroeconomic relevance of the topic, only few empirical studies exist to this date, which examine the financing behaviour of “Mittelstand”. For the paper at hand, all PREPS financed German businesses were asked to fill out an online survey. PREPS is a standardized mezzanine financing instrument, which was offered to “Mittelstand” businesses with a high degree of credit worthiness - primarily to finance business growth. PREPS financed businesses are of particular interest for this research as they can choose from the greatest variety of financing options amongst their peers due to their size and credit worthiness. Financing instruments differ in terms of rights and obligations associated with them. Depending on their design, financing contracts can fulfil a variety of functions beyond the obvious supply of liquidity, such as financial transformation, influencing of behaviours, and signalling private information. The paper at hand suggests that the businesses in question selected the same financing instrument, however, for different reasons. Furthermore, the degree of appreciation for certain characteristics of the financing instrument varies with business and situation specific context. When exploring individual hypotheses on how individual factors influence this degree of appreciation for certain financing characteristics, this paper builds on core capital structure theories as well as recent empirical insights in regards to financing behaviour. In addition, the paper examines several explorative hypotheses.

In this thesis criteria and requirements for a successful collaboration platform for the improvement of communication between scientific institutes of the railway industry distributed worldwide are developed and evaluated. First, an introduction to collaboration platforms and their current market situation and trends will be given. The result-ing knowledge will be used for a qualitative content analysis in the form of interviews with the target group of the planned collaboration platform. Based on the basic knowledge and the interviews carried out, hypotheses for communication in scientific institutes will then be formed. These hypotheses serve to create a questionnaire for a quantitative survey of the target group. The following analysis of general collaboration platforms and those of the railway industry provides further insights and describes requirements for a successful conception of a collaboration platform.
A subsequently planned conception of this platform cannot be carried out within the scope of this research work due to a lack of meaningful results and information. The planned quantitative content analysis was too complex for the chosen research context. In this research work, the quantitative questioning will be prepared for the following research work in this topic area. (2009)
The present bachelor- thesis studies the influence of three online advertisements (banner, streaming ad and interstitial) on attitude, recall and purchase intention with an experiment. It has an introduction to online advertising and the examined advertisements as well as a review of the three theoretical main focuses of analyzes. The experiment was organized within an online questionnaire. 358 test persons participated. The collected data was verified on differences by correlation matrix and analysis of variance.
Increasing innovation is the main reason of a changing daily work. The interaction of progressing digital technologies and our working society has originated the term “New Work”. “New Work” implies, that like spare time work time becomes part of the world of live. In this context, the self-responsibility, self-determination and self-realization of an individual in the professional as well as in the private environment is important.
The subject of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the meaning of “New Work”. Also the components and the background is considered in detail by the literature analysis in order to answer the first research question "What is the meaning of the term “New Work" in research and practice?". For this purpose, the central contents of digitalization and technology, structure of work as well as work attitude of “New Work” are taken up and explicitly examined. What perception and what benefits employees and entrepreneurs have in relation to these contents is analyzed in the present bachelor thesis on the basis of a qualitative study. The collected results from the expert interviews also provide a comparison between entrepreneurs and employees understanding, attitude and feelings towards “New Work”.
The interviews show, that “New Work” has a positive influence on the personal and the professional development of individuals. In addition, “New Work” has created new perspectives and requirements for workers and employers. “New Work” is focusing on goal-oriented working attitude and displaces time-oriented work. Through the realization and implementation of these new perspectives and requirements, it results in a fulfilling feeling in the working and living world. Caused by the abolishment of boundaries, “New Work” can be realized. Due to a satisfying profession, the sense and purpose of the work is no longer questioned. The “New Work” development leads to a cultural revolution based and digital changes.
This bachelor thesis examines methods of Social Network Analysis in the context of in-house collaboration platforms and gives an overview of appropriate metrics based on findings in literature. Within this literature analysis advantages in analyzing these enterprise social networks for companies are pointed out. Also possible problems, for example relating to data protection, will be explained. Based on dynamical long-term analysis of the network of UniConnect it was detected, that measures of centrality show the connectedness of an actor. These measures allow drawing conclusions concerning position and function of the employee in the company. Furthermore the complexity of the network can be determined through clique analysis. By viewing at the gradual development of the network, it is possible to identify persons, who are strongly interconnected within a short period of time. These employees have strategic importance relating to knowledge management and the dissemination of information within the company.
Normen entstehen in jeder Gemeinschaft. The main technological aim of the project is to construct a simulator for exploring and experimenting norm-innovation. The forecasted impact of the project is to contribute to the regulation of ecommunities by handing out a simulator for the emergence of new norms in complex social systems."1 "While the simulator will be designed as a general-purpose tool, some specific study cases will be selected as so to provide the necessary grounding parameters.
This thesis deals with the approach, the structure and the variety of methods in the field of technology forecasting. Furthermore insights into the environment of Railways Diagnostics and Monitoring Technologies (RDMT), their technology management and industryspecific requirements for technology forecasting (especially in the area SMEs) are given. Combining those a recommendation for practical use of research results in companies of this size and industry is developed. In order to initiate the previously mentioned research elements a literature research was operated in the field of innovation management and the railway environment. In addition, an interview with an expert of a medium-sized technology manufacturer of RDMT industry was performed. The most important finding was that a single method cannot fulfill the requirements on its own, thus a combination of methods and organizational forms is necessary to achieve an effective technology forecasting.
This scientific paper deals with the question to which extend the increasing digitization has an impact on work-life balance. Answering this question is the main goal of this study.
To reach this goal a literature review is made, in which it is possible to create a direct correlation between the subjective feel of work-life balance and the perceived stress level. With the help of Antonovsky’s salutogenesis model (1997) from the stress research field, factors are ascertained which determine the perceived stress level and linked with that the perceived work-life balance. These stress-influencing factors are examined through a qualitative content analysis by Mayring (2014) on a base of a problem-centered interview.
The results suggest that the digitization has impact on all these ascertained factors and linked to them on the work-life balance. This shows, that the digitization influences us in almost every aspect of work or private life. Whether this impact is positive or negative towards the work life balance depends on the individual, that assesses this factor. Clear distinctions can be made between people working in an IT-based job and those that do not. In comparison, people with IT-based jobs perceive a substantial better impact of digitization on work-life balance.
The architecture of decentralized digital transaction systems with public transaction history provides no transaction monitoring to prevent unwanted transactions and to identify the transmitter and receiver of those transactions. With the introduction of a public list of unwanted addresses, it is possible to isolate these unwanted addresses by general exclusion and thereby to prevent unwanted transactions, as well as to identify the owners of unwanted addresses. The public list management can be performed by decentralized multiple instances using a trust network, so that the decentralized nature of the systems is maintained.
Existing algorithms using a beaconless strategy for geographic routing in Unit-Disk Graphs offer an approach for improving non-beaconless routing algorithms for Quasi-Unit-Disk Graphs. The majority of the aforementioned non-beaconlessrnrouting algorithms for Quasi-Unit-Disk Graphs are based on collecting 2-hop neighbourhood information. As shown by the Beaconless Clustering Algorithm developed in this thesis, a beaconless strategy can be used to enhance an existing non-beaconless algorithm by reducing message overhead and power consumption. The Beaconless Clustering algorithm is based on geographic clustering and constructs a sparse graph with constant number of vertices per unit area. The thesis at hand contains a detailed description of the algorithm, a proof of correctness and a simulation for presenting reachable improvements.
"We've allways been in a culture where more is more, and suddenly we're in a culture whrere less is a better quality of life. It's pretty revolutionary." - Bill Stewart
The transformation of society in recent years has brought significant changes, including the trend towards more conscious consumption and more sustainable use of resources. Traditional patterns have increasingly receded into the background, stereotypes have been broken and the standards of assessment have been redefined. And so we have arrived at a time when owning less is considered as more valuable and minimalism has become a new trend. The transformation of the social norms has also led to changes in the economy. Due to recent changes, sharing economy has emerged as a new, rapidly growing sector of the economy. In simple terms, the business model can be put as the sharing of unused resources in exchange for (non-) monetary incentives.
The present bachelor thesis deals with the implementation of the sharing economy in the B2B sector. The advantages and disadvantages of the business model have been shown and opportunities and risks of the implementation in companies have been described. Furthermore, it is examined, which conditions of the consumer sector are suitable for implementation in the B2B model and which new factors should be taken into consideration. Based on the literature analysis, a B2C model has been developed. In addition, qualitative interviews were carried out. Among the experts were the managers and CEO of a medium-sized IT company. The results of the evaluation, based on Mayring (2002), helped to develop a decision model for implementation of sharing economy in B2B and to answer the research questions.
Based on the results of the interviews, key framework conditions were transferred from the private sharing sector to the B2B model. In addition, further factors were identified. Depending on the decision model, it was possible to show the requirements for the implementation of sharing economy in the B2B environment and identify the challenges to be faced.
(2020)
The technological progress is highly responsible for how people live their everyday life. Technical innovations provide new opportunities to re-design all areas of life and because of that the society has to adjust to these changes permanently. These days, due to the fact that there is a changeover from analog into digital processes, this circumstance is highly relevant. However, it is not always clear whether a technological innovation just entails chances or involves risks, too. The research field of technology assessment pursues the goal to examine the influence of technological innovations on the society. For this purpose, unpredictable consequences of a technology need to be anticipated in advance to provide the opportunity of earlier reactions. The core of this thesis a discussion about a project based approach of technology assessment. Additionally, it is being investigated whether and how systems theory approaches can be used to improve predictions in the research area of technology assessment. Therefore, the question of how reliable forecasts are in this kind of context will be answered. Moreover, there is an investigation if an added-value can be created through performing system thinking. As a methodical approach a literature review has been performed. Furthermore, experts were questioned in an interview and by e-mail to gain an insight in the practical work of technology assessment. Based on the elaborated project structure, for each part of the project was examined if significant results can be maintained through the sophisticated use of principles of the systems theory. The analysis of this paper has shown that the results of a technology assessment may have more reliable forecast value in comparison to an investigation without proper consideration of system thinking. Especially, the understanding of a system during the phase of conception of a project can be crucial for the positive outcome for the results of technology assessment. This master thesis represents the theoretical point of view regarding topics technology assessment and systems theory. An application test for the validation of the results in the practical work of technology assessment is recommended.
Unternehmen in Netzwerken

Despite their importance to the permanent success of service firms, the construct of perceived customer discrimination and its impact on the customer so far has received relatively little attention in business and management research. Existing studies, mostly social science studies from the United States, show the existence of discrimination in different service contexts. Nevertheless, the existing literature shows some gaps that require further research. So far primarily qualitative and case-based studies about customer discrimination exist which hinder the generalization of the findings. Moreover, although such studies give insight into the origin and the perception of discrimination from the customers" perspective, they provide no useful means to the management of service firms to verify the existence of discrimination in the customer contact of their own company. A research gap exists mainly with regard to the measurement of perceived customer discrimination and the investigation of its consequences. The aim of this thesis is to develop and validate a multi-item scale for measuring perceived customer discrimination. Firstly, this thesis develops a literature-based understanding of perceived customer discrimination, assuming a three-dimensional conceptualization of the construct. Based upon this three-dimensional conceptualization in a first study, an instrument for measuring perceived customer discrimination with the dimensions "overt discrimination", "discriminatory level of service" and "subtle discrimination" is being developed using qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on this three-dimensional conceptualization of perceived customer discrimination hypotheses are formulated and empirically tested supporting the nomological validity of the scale (study 1). Subsequently, the predictive validity of the scale is examined with a further sample and a known groups validity is conducted (study 2). To reconfirm the three-dimensionality and the nomological validity of the scale, dyads of service employees and customers are being surveyed in a further study via a questionnaire (study 3). Managerial and research-related implications of the results are discussed.
Prävention von Korruption
(2006)
The known methods of the prevention of corruption are set into context of comparable ways to obviate accidences during working processes, environmental pollution by organisations and the options to ensure quality for manufactured goods. The aim was to find out if and in which degree the different methods of prevention in the area of corruption and the mentioned aspects of the TQM support each other.
Social Media is a world-wide phenomenon which has drastically changed the way humans communicate, the availability of information, as well as a crucial tool for various businesses. This has also heavily influenced the sporting community which presents the focus of this study. The work aims to examine the self-presentation, on the media platform Instagram, of footballers from FC Bayern Munich, to gain an understanding of how athletes use this medium as a communication and marketing tool to build their brand. Instagram was chosen due to it being a platform on which users post visual images as their primary communication mechanism. There are many social media uses for professional athletes. From the sharing of personal lives, professional highlights, and opinion, to product placement and endorsements, athletes are closer to fans and consumers than ever before. Social media also puts the athlete in charge of the message, image, and content regarding their careers and their lives Ten footballers were selected against specified criteria and examined against Goffman’s theory of self-presentation (1959) to formulate the research question: “Which forms of presentation of football players of FC Bayern Munich ́s Instagram posts achieve the highest user engagement?”
Empirical research analysed the effect of different visual and contextual forms on user engagement rates.
Through the works literature review, individual hypotheses were derived and tested in a quantitative standardized media content analysis. The first 50 Instagram posts of each of the ten FC Bayern Munich football players with the most followers were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics software. From the visual aspect seven photo categories were developed which were examined in relation to their engagement rate with the posts. Within the contextual framework, the importance and effect of the number of tags and hashtags used were analyzed.
Findings revealed differences to previous research on an athlete ́s use of written social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter, as the majority of visual images posted by athletes were in sporty settings, thus reflecting frontpage-performance strategies according to the self-presentation theory. Further results showed that a greater utilization of hashtags and tags do not correlate with a higher impact on the engagement rates. Personal brand management implications for athletes are examined in greater detail in the discussion.
Digital Transformation is a main enabler for technological change in today’s society and corporate structures. Companies of all sizes have to face up the change. The com-plexity of the innovations is constantly growing. More and more information and knowledge are needed to build a basis for renewal. Different capabilities, such as highly qualified employees, material resources and the correct handling with these information, constitute the background for the advancement. Compared to large companies, small and medium sized companies (SMEs) are struggling more with these circum-stances. This leaves potential capabilities to optimize daily routines unused.
Challenges here are different internal and external barriers. Examples for that are the lack of IT expertise and innovation culture. Hence it is very important, to show SMEs the advantages of the innovation process within the scope of digital transformation. Cost savings, improvement of IT infrastructure or optimization of their business processes, are drivers that should be adopted in the awareness of SMEs.
Recommendations for action are needed, also with the support of information management. This includes information management, strategic management for external an internal information and the selection of an appropriate IT infrastructure. However dynamic management skills and sufficient IT expertise also complement the digitization process.
This becomes clear from the literature analysis following the principles of Webster and Watson (2002). The Concept mapping and the concept matrix serves to support the process. They are presenting the key words and showing the most important works of the bachelor thesis. The argumentation of the bachelor thesis based on this.
The initial problem that motivated this thesis is the lock of possibility to represent finished theses by students of the research group BAS. Many finished thesis are only available in a printed version. Some of the students created their own websites but these are not uniform.
The first step to solve this problem is to create an overall research design. The research design of this thesis based on the construction-oriented approach of design science research by Hevner [2007]. The initial problem will be solved by creating a Web 2.0 website. Therefore the open source content management system Drupal is used. For the implementation of the target system, a set of requirements will be collected. This set of requirements will be collected by using various methods such like mock ups, interviews, collaboration scenarios and personas. To meet the collected requirements a set of additional modules will be added to the core version of Drupal. This advanced version of Drupal will be scenario and user tested. A result of this work is a deployable prototype, with which it is possible to present various theses. A further result will be user guides that describe the operation of the prototype. This thesis finishes with a conclusion and an outlook on the further use of the prototype.
This thesis deals with Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). The objectives of the work are to clarify the term RRI and to identify the current state of research in the field. RRI is a concept significantly shaped by the European Commission (EC). It is composed of responsibility, research and innovation, which will be considered individually to begin with. According to the definition by Clausen (2009) used here, responsibility is made up of a subject ("Who takes responsibility"), an object ("for what,"), one or several addressees ("to whom") and authorities ("and why?"). In the conceptual chapter of this thesis, the role of organisations as subjects of responsibility is grounded in the fact that they work toward a certain purpose. More importantly, though, society as an important addressee and authority of responsibility, increasingly calls for organisations to take responsibility for the consequences and wider impacts of their actions. The field of sustainability, with its pillars of economical, ecological and social issues, is considered a key object of responsibility. Innovation and research as an integral part of it are understood as complex processes aiming at reaching corporate goals in novel ways. By means of a literature analysis according to Webster & Watson (2002) the current state of research on RRI is explored. Most of the literature used is identified as conceptual in nature. Despite the great uncertainty that still prevails, four dimensions of RRI can be identified: Deliberation, Anticipation, Reflexivity, and Responsiveness. Taking into account the results of the literature review, the dimensions offered by the EC are classified as important activities rather than conceptual dimensions. Research and innovation in alignment with RRI involves stakeholders, particularly society, in the process right from the beginning. It also examines its potential impacts and continually reflects on its motivations and underlying values. The most important aspect is the adaptability of the process in response to the results from the other dimensions. All activities are based on responsibility and sustainability and are integrated through appropriate management and governance. In addition to conceptual work, little research has been done especially with regard to operationalisation and implementation of RRI. For the latter, the embedding in a stage-gate process according to Cooper (2010) is suggested here. However, the actual design of the conceptual dimensions still needs to be specified. In addition, overall awareness of RRI needs to be sharpened and a commitment to RRI made.
(2014)
This scientific paper identifies and describes the incentives for the utilization of knowledge for universities and small and medium-sized companies. In addition, different models " for example the Knott/Wildavsky model " are continuously adapted, created and expanded, which leads to an new integrative model. The main problem is that companies have to integrate knowledge from external sources into their operations. According to the literature, this model of open innovation is considered as inevitable in order to remain competitive. This is especially the case for small and medium-sized companies. The reasons for this are illustrated as the possibilities of a successful collaboration. Germany has a relativley high involvement in knowledge and technology transfer in international comparison. Nevertheless, a number of companies assume their insitution won´t benefit from knowledge utilization.
The literature review revealed that there is no existing model, which combines the stages of knowledge utilization with the incentives of universities and companies. This paper closes the identified gap through the created integrative model. The formulated incentive factors can help universities and companies recognizing if a cooperated research is beneficial or not.
At the beginning the basic theoretical foundations are defined based on the literature review, followed by a description of the incentive factors of knowledge exploitation. On the one hand there is a distinction between tangible and intangible incentives. On the other hand there is a segmentation of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Both are important regarding to the motivation of employees and scientists. In the end, a knowledge utilization model is presented and adapted to the present case, before proceeding with the extension of the model providing an additional perspective and adding the incentive factors.
By the procedure described an integrative model is created. It can be useful to all affected people, universities and their scientists as well as small and medium-sized companies and their employees.
A service excellence culture is determined by various factors. Some factors are supporting the realization of a service excellence culture, others are more about to inhibit excellent service. The internal environment of the organisation is the foundation for excellent service. While the employees are known as the key of excellent service, it is up to the management to support their employees with a respective treatment. Especially empowerment and encouragement are known as supportive elements concerning service-orientated behaviour of the employees. The term internal excellence describes the optimal internal situation of the organisation for introducing a service excellence culture. Within an internal excellence, the front-line-employees are creating customer satisfaction and delight among the customers by working off the customers problems as well with standardized processes, as well as with innovative processes. An inhibiting factor is the complexity of the customers problems. With a rising complexity, it gets more difficult to solve the problem and to create customer satisfaction and customer delight. In the IT service industry, the complexity has a special impact. Due to the characteristics of the industry, encountered problems are often complicated and technical sophisticated. These individual characteristics lead to an increased complexity, the front-line-employees have to deal with. To manage this challenge, several measures have to be adopted. The service-employee can be supported by a clearly defined guideline, that includes all relevant steps of the service process. Additionally, a learning culture can be enhanced by creating a knowledge database, where service-cases are documented. The technical support of the service-employee by using special software tools is another measure, which supports the service excellence culture of the organisation.
Accidents annually cause high economic damages for concerned persons, companies and the state. To determine the exact costs of a damage is a challenge. Scientific studies differ from each other because of different models of calculation. Due to the fact of a low number of accidents concerning rail transport there are not many studies about how to calculate the costs an accident causes. The aim of this thesis is to give an overview about methods when dealing with these costs and to point out occurring difficulties. Generally, costs of accident can be divided in two categories. One category deals with personal injuries whereas the other focuses on material damages. Personal injuries contain material and immaterial damages. This leads to difficulties in calculation. The main aspect when dealing with personal damages is the loss of manpower, the costs of medical supply and the costs of the recovery of the legal situation. Currently there is no model of how to calculate personal damages concerning rail transport in Germany. The “Bundesamt für Straßenverkehr” developed an extensive model for calculations of costs of accident concerning traffic. It turned out that the death of people has costs round about 1.1 million euro. Severely and slightly injured people cause damages about 106,000 euro and 5,000 euro. This thesis declares that the model is important regarding different aspects of rail transport and that it is based on statistically collected key performance indicators. Furthermore, some approaches, which analyse the value of life, are mentioned. There are large derivations between them. To make a calculation of material damage the current value of the object must be respected. When dealing with the limitation of material damages the focus is on damages concerning infrastructure. In addition, railway infrastructure can be mentioned. With the help of the “Kostenkennwertekatalog” of Deutsche Bahn AG acquisitions costs for certain components of infrastructure can be determined. As a result, they offer a basis for calculating damages.
This thesis aims to find models to calculate damages to persons in the context of railway accidents. These models were tested for their applicability for a railway accident database. The reviewed models for injured casualties were identified by a research of literature. Their applicability for the accident database was tested with the aid of average values and sample values. The analysis of fatalities was executed via the combination of collected values of two literature researches. These values were compared to the values of the database.
It was stated that there is a calculation for seriously injured, which may serve more exact values than the calculation of the database, especially when there is more detailed data about the casualties. The calculation of slightly injured couldn't be realized by just beholding the pure damages to persons, because it's only a small part of the costs the responsible company has to pay. For the calculation of fatalities appeared problems with the methodology of the most studies.
Digital happiness
(2016)
Emotions in the digital world gain more and more importance by the accelerating digitalization of recent years. In everyday life as well as professional and educational environments, the use of media is almost inescapable. This work takes a closer look to the still relatively unknown topic, “Digital Happiness“. In the literature emotions in the digital world are studied increasingly, but concerning the topic of “Digital Happiness” there are not many insights.
In this research the differences between communicating emotions through digital media and face-to-face communications, as well as their impacts, are investigated. The perception and expression of emotions in the real and digital world are considered. Furthermore, a first definition of “Digital Happiness” and a model with the associated determinants that influence “Digital Happiness” is developed.
To achieve these goals, a literature analysis by the method of Webster & Watson (2002) is performed. Therefore, 15 articles are selected and analyzed in more detail to illustrate the current state of research. These articles are organized into a concept matrix. In addition, special phenomena, such as Quantified Self, are closely considered in order to determine other factors. Based on the literature analysis, a qualitative study by the method of Mayring (2014) is performed. It is developed into an interview guideline that serves as the basis for the investigation of the established determinants of the literature analysis. This is confirmed or refuted by 30 interviews with users of information and communication technologies. With the help of the interviews, a large part of the determinants in the literature can be confirmed. Moreover, some new determinants are identified. These results are included into the final model. This model provides a basis for further research in the field of “Digital Happiness“. Finally, different implications for research and practice are found, which reveal the need of further research.
(2015)
Virtual worlds have been investigated by several academic disciplines for several years, e.g. sociology, psychology, law and education. Since the developers of virtual worlds have implemented aspects like scarcity and needs, even economic research has become interested in these virtual environments. Exploring virtual economies mainly deals with the research of trade regarding the virtual goods used to supply the emerged needs. On the one hand, economics analyzes the meaning of virtual trade according to the overall interpretation of the economical characteristics of virtual worlds. As some virtual worlds allow the change of virtual world money with real money and vice versa, virtual goods are traded by the users for real money, researchers on the other hand, study the impact of the interdependencies between virtual economies and the real world. The presented thesis mainly focuses on the trade within virtual worlds in the context of virtual consumption and the observation of consumer prices. Therefore, the four virtual worlds World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Entropia Universe and Second Life have been selected. There are several components required to calculate consumer price indices. First, a market basket, which contains the relevant consumed goods existing in virtual worlds, must be developed. Second, a weighting scheme has to be established, which shows the dispersion of consumer tendencies. Third, prices of relevant consumer goods have to be taken. Following real world methods, it is the challenge to apply those methods within virtual worlds. Therefore, this dissertation contains three corresponding investigation parts. Within a first analysis, it will be evaluated, in how far virtual worlds can be explored to identify consumable goods. As a next step, the consumption expenditures of the avatars will be examined based on an online survey. At last, prices of consumable goods will be recorded. Finally, it will be possible to calculate consumer price indices. While investigating those components, the thesis focuses not only on the general findings themselves, but also on methodological issues arising, like limited access to relevant data, missing legal legitimation or security concerns of the users. Beside these aspects, the used methods also allow the examination of several other economic aspects like the consumption habits of the avatars. At the end of the thesis, it will be considered to what extent virtual world economic characteristics can be compared with the real world.
Aspects like the important role of weapons or the different usage of food show significant differences to the real world, caused by the business models of virtual worlds.
In this thesis, the methods of a feasibility study are applied to analyze whether or not the foundation of an academic based startup focusing on IT-consulting is possible. For this purpose the concept of consulting, the demand for the offering of consulting services as well as the relevant market are analyzed. Furthermore, empirical research through face-to-face interviews with IT-companies located in the region of Koblenz is utilized in order to gain further insight about the feasibility of said business venture. The result of the research is to be presented in a concrete recommendation for further actions.
The subject of this thesis was to analyse the involvement of classical creativity techniques and IT tools in different phases of the innovation process. In addition, the present work deals with the integration of Design Thinking and TRIZ into the innovation process. The aim was to define a specific innovation process based on diverse existing Innovation process models from the literature. This specific innovation process should serve as a basis for the analysis of integration of creativity techniques, IT tools, Design Thinking and TRIZ. Summarizing it can be said that the application of creativity techniques and IT Tools is admissible and useful in every phase of the innovation process. In this work it was shown that the design thinking method can be integrated in the early stages of the innovation process. Also, the process model of TRIZ, which differs from traditional innovation processes, can be combined with classical innovation processes.
As a result of the technical progress, processes have to be adjusted. On the one hand, the digital transformation is absolutely necessary for every organization to operate efficient and sustainable, on the other hand whose accomplishment is a tremendous challenge. The huge amount of personal data, which accrue in this context, is an additional difficulty.
Against the background of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this thesis focuses on process management and ways of optimizing processes in a Human Resources Department. Beside the analysis of already existing structures and workflows, data management and especially the handling of personal data in an application process are examined. Both topics, the process management and the data protection are vitally important by itself, but it is necessary to implement the requirements of data protection within the appropriate position of a corresponding process. Relating to this, the thesis deals with the research question of what barriers may occur by a sustainable process integration and to which extend the GDPR prevent an unobstructed workflow within the Human Resources Department of the Handwerkskammer Koblenz. Additionally, answering the question of which subprocesses are convenient for a process automation is highly significant.
In scope of these questions Business Process Management is the solution. By means of the graphical representation standard, Business Process Model and Notation, a process model with the relevant activities, documents and responsibilities of the recruitment process is designed. Based on a target-actual comparison it becomes apparent, that standardized process steps with less exceptions and a large amount of information are basically convenient for automation respectively partial automation. After the different phases of the recruitment process are documented in detail, a Workflow-Management-System can ex-port the transformed models, so the involved employees just have to carry out a task list with assigned exercises. Against the background of the data protection regulations, access rights and maturities can be determined. Subsequently only authorized employees have admission to the personal data of applicants. Because of impending sanctions by violation against the GDPR, the implementation of the relevant legal foundations within the recruitment process is necessary and appropriate. Relating to the defined research questions, it appears that in principle not every activity is appropriate for a process automation. Especially unpredictable and on a wide range of factors depending subprocesses are unsuitable. Additionally, media discontinuities and redundant data input are obstacles to an enduring process integration. Nevertheless, a coherent consideration of the topics of business process management and the data protection regulations is required.
A growing flood of advertising and information as well a limited capacity to collect information present a challenge to marketing today. Marketing in general is very important for the success of a company. But the classic marketing theory which ignores the special characteristics of young companies dominates. A new company with a new idea and a new product meets an existing market with customers and established competitors. For an innovation-related founding context this is a special challenge.
In this bachelor thesis the subjects, entrepreneurship and marketing will be discussed first. In addition the special characteristics of young companies, the so-called liabilities will be explained. The meaning of the term entrepreneurial marketing is explained by detailed consideration of the close and wide conceptual understanding. Afterwards the comparison clarifies the difference to the classic marketing. As part of the literature review, the current state of research will be presented and the practical use will be examined in more detail based on the central approaches. The approaches are the guerrilla marketing, ambient marketing, sensation marketing, viral marketing and ambush marketing. How entrepreneurial marketing with the central approaches is used in a start-up company is analyzed by a qualitative investigation in the form of a case study.
The case study shows that unconventional marketing measures and low use of medium can have a large effect. The entrepreneurial marketing therefore offers an alternative to classic marketing because it pays attention to the special characteristics of a young start-up company. This bachelor thesis shows that the entrepreneurial marketing can convert the weaknesses of young founding companies into strengths and lead to superiority over the competition.
Entscheidungsverhalten unter Unsicherheit mit Berücksichtigung von Persönlichkeitseigenschaften

The subject of this Bachelor Thesis is the research of decision-making in consideration of personal characteristics. One part of this thesis should analyze the uncertainty and the risk of decision-making and explain which differences a decision-maker is faced with. The other part should compare different groups of people and point out that these groups are faced with different problems in their decision making process. The differences in these groups are based on demographical and personal characteristics, such as the type of profession or the level of knowledge. The conclusion of this paper is to assign different types of heuristics, logics, theories and other decision-supporting tools to the different groups of people.
A guideline for the examination of business models is developed in this research project and M.Sc. study, focusing on young, innovative enterprises ("start-ups"). Start-ups often start to operate in uncertainty and tentativeness. To forecast the success of such an enterprise is therefore today hardly possible by means of quantitative data. The evaluation of innovative business models ("Business Model Check") today is a gap in Business Administration and Management studies.
The lasting hype around the mobile internet and the related technology of the mobile applications seem not to drop off. The immense economic potential of this market leads the businesses and ventures to continuously find new ways of monetization. The underlying causes of that phenomenon are rarely challenged. Scientific research in the field of "ubiquitous mobile" has not yet developed a clear overall picture of the causes and effect chains. Attempts of deriving causes by studies in related mass media such as the computer or the internet have been discussed controversially. By combining the research streams of media motive usage and the customer retention, this paper will present a new research model. Based on a quantitative survey in the German speaking the gained data proves the motives for mobility, information gathering and entertainment purposed to be the most important drivers of customer satisfaction in mobile applications. The paper also highlights a significant correlation between the customer satisfaction and the other determinants of customer retention.
New techniques concerning the automatic identification of objects (Auto-ID) show unique potential for being used in the economy. This paper focuses on the technology of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and examines its uses and potentials regarding selected economic sectors. In the course of this paper, RFID will be directly compared to the bar code, the currently most prevalent system for object identification in the economy. To this end, the different basic modes of operation of both technologies will be introduced, and differences between their technical realizations will be brought to light. Moreover, this paper distinguishes and evaluates both technologies with regards to their potential use in three different branches of industry. Their differentiation provides the basis for determining and evaluating the RFID technology- probability of replacing the bar code in the consumer goods sector, the logistic sector, and the pharmaceutic sector.
This thesis deals with the question of which success factors apply to social media marketing. German start-up companies are examined for this purpose. The investigation is based on ten semi-structured expert interviews, which are evaluated using a qualitative content analysis. The results show that there are many success factors and that companies proceed differently in many areas when implementing social media marketing measures. Important success factors are a tailor-made, company-specific social media strategy with a clear formulation of goals, integration of social media marketing into the corporate strategy, openness to new social media trends, credibility and reputation, compliance with data protection, the correct handling of criticism, use of social media as a market research tool and a long-term social media strategy. However, the significance of the results should not be overestimated, since this is a qualitative study with a limited range and only examines individual cases. Further research on the success factors could be based on quantitative studies or group discussions in which experts or users or customers are interviewed. Another possibility is the qualitative examination of the user-generated content.
In the last few years, information technology experienced a great increase. People and Enterprises are able to exchange information through the development of the Web 2.0 to the Social Web. Social Networks like Facebook or Xing, blogs from known and unknown people or the many discussion forums are common platforms where people have the opportunity to share and exchange information. Enterprises and people have to accept this fact and development. The reputation is also influenced by the overabundance of information. The result of this development is the digital reputation, which extend the entire reputation. Everyone who is looking for an order or a job can assume that his orrnher name will be "googled", whether he or she is a part of an internet branch or not. Every information is available through search engines. Just a quick look at the Facebook or Xing profile is needed to get a brief impression of someone. The communications expert Klaus Eck said that someone who takes the internet seriously will get a benefit for the development of his digital reputation. This research work will show you through a self made questionnaire what is seen as positive and negative influences on the reputation in Social Networks and how the digital reputation impacts the entire reputation.
In the age of Web 2.0 the internet as a platform to provide services or sell goods gained more attention in companies. Especially for customer support customer forums can be a useful tool for companies. By providing customer forums, companies can reduce their support costs dramatically. Nevertheless, it is often difficult for companies to measure the success of customer forums. In the research literature the determinants of success of customer forums have seldom been studied. The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to fill this research gap by applying the model of Lin and Lee to measure the success of online-communities on customer forums. In addition, metrics for measuring the success of this model are discussed. The discussion of this topic leads to the conclusion that the model of Lin and Lee is mostly applicable for customer forums, and provides a useful approach to measuring suc-cess both in theory and in practice. This could be demonstrated by the example of the 1&1 customer forum. The metrics that were found in the theoretical part were quite relevant in practice. Nevertheless, future research should focus more on monetary indicators to also make success of customer forums financially assessable.
